Edgar Cayce, the Sleeping Prophet, predicted long ago, while Russia was still under Communist control, that she would wake up from her deep sleep and emerge to become the spiritual "Light of the World." I believe that in this very moment, that prophecy is becoming a reality.

The 1999 Earth/Sky

I traveled to Russia in 1999 at the request of the Russian people to share my understanding of spirituality. It was not the most auspicious time, as the night I arrived a major terrorist bombing destroyed a building in Moscow, killing over 300.

Naturally, the government was suspicious of all foreign visitors, and the resulting government paranoia did interfere with my work there. But nothing happened any differently than would have happened in America under the same circumstances.

Beyond the problems that developed because of this terrorist act, I began to see the Russian people for who they really are: souls whose extraordinary spiritual and psychic power has been held in abeyance for many years, and who now are beginning to glow brightly once again — like tiny, bright-red coals exposed to oxygen and light.

The first Russian Earth/Sky workshop was held in a colossal old gym, where beams of light from the tall, dramatic windows spotlighted us from time to time as the clouds played tag.

There were well over a hundred people there (although the size of the space made the room feel almost empty), and at first I had no idea what incredible intent and sacrifice it had taken to put all those people into that room.

You see, in Russia, there is almost no middle class. And although that circumstance is slowly changing, it's still true that in Russia you are mainly either very poor or extremely rich. And since the average pay at that time was only $25.00 USD per month — something I had not realized before I went — it was almost prohibitively expensive for them to attend my classes. I had reduced my American workshop fee by 75 percent, not realizing that the resulting tuition was still a small fortune to the average Russian.

But they found a way to attend. Some were even there as representatives of larger groups. In at least one case, an entire village had selected someone to attend as their ambassador. The villagers paid for everything with the expectation that the person selected would go back and teach them what had been learned.

What amazing faith and commitment!

Openness and Sensitivity

But that faith and commitment was not the only amazing thing about teaching in Russia. For me, it was very different than teaching in America, where people often feel they know everything, and their arrogance and ego gets in the way of their ability to experience. Instead, the Russian people are open and sensitive — yet with a wisdom that I have seldom seen before. I found myself truly loving these people. They are so beautiful. The Russian heart is like no other, and probably is the resource that has allowed them to dig out from under the rubble and repression of Soviet rule.

I remember the 1960s here in America. As one of millions of "hippies," I lived first-hand the Love that flowed in those days, from person to person and heart to heart. It was a time unlike anything that I have lived since. But now, as pure caring guided the course of events, I began to realize that this same spirit was an integral part of Russia herself, leaping from soul to soul.

Yes, there is a corrupt government linked with an even more corrupt Russian mafia — instruments created in response to the need for survival. But the Russian heart has prevailed, and continues to prevail, past all injustice. And I even discovered that there were many people inside the government itself who were honestly trying to change the Russian political structure for the good of the whole. I honor these people for their courage. And I believe they will succeed.

We are offering this issue of the Spirit of Ma'at about the renewed emergence of Russia's spirituality because, in the present world situation as well as in the future, Russia is going to be our friend. For they love us in ways that we can barely understand. Hopefully, by their example, we will be changed and opened and even infected by their open-hearted love.

We need their love to remember something essential about ourselves that we only touched upon in the 1960s. And they need our love in order to remember and embrace freedom and enterprise in this rapidly changing world.

Please take the time, even during this period of war and struggle, to find out what the Russians have wanted to share with us, and allow into your own heart the possibility that Russia may hold a spiritual light that will help guide the American people in our common future.

In love and service,

Drunvalo
