A Letter

To the Readers of the Spirit of Ma'at

from Jade Wah'oo Grigori

Jade Wah'oo GrigoriHello,

I would like to introduce myself, along with some words regarding my Life Calling and my intention in offering ''the Ways'' of my ancestral shamanic inheritance to the world community.

Though the spiritual ways of my Mongolian bloodline are strong in my family, I consider myself to be an American shaman, having been born and raised on a small farm in Ohio.

In 1974, I was fortunate to be adopted by an Old Man, Juan Pena, of the San Juan Pueblo. Following his own Spirit-given Vision, he acknowledged me as the one he had been waiting for -- the successor to the lineage that he carried.

Eight long years of training and initiation followed. With Grampa's death in 1982 at age 104, I became the caretaker of this incredibly ancient compendium of shamanic knowledge, songs, ceremonies, dances, approaches to Spirit and workings of Power which comprise what Grampa humbly referred to as ''the Ways.''

It was during this same time that the good folks of the Southern Ute People took me in as a family member, giving me firm guidance and direction. They are to this day my People, their reservation in Southern Colorado my heart's home.

At this time in my life I have undergone ten Death-Initiations. Our shamanic initiations are brought about via Death-by-Intent. My first occurred when I was five years old. Grampa Pena oversaw the next six during my time with him, and I have gone to the Other Side and back three times in the remaining years. Each Initiation has provided me with another glimpse of the Totality-of-All-Being.

The Life Calling which guides me is to make accessible, directly by the senses, the underlying nature of reality which is perceived by extending one's spirit into the expansive realms and domains of spiritual reality. The embrasure of Love which is experienced therein is the foundation of the lineage of my caretakership -- that of Power expressed through Compassionate Service into the World -- and is evidenced in all the ceremonies of my working.

My intention, nay, my passion! is to make ''the Ways'' accessible to those who are heart-drawn to the form of authentic shamanism. Shamanism is humanity's oldest and most enduring spiritual practice. As such, it is also one of the human race's basic survival skills. I am of the impassioned vision that it will be through our re-establishment of intimate relationship with the living Creation about us that we will, as a species, survive, and will find harmony, equanimity of Soul, and honor in so doing.

Authentic shamanism, a practice applicable by anyone of true heart's desire, provides a direct means of that re-harmonization with Creation. It is however, a way, not the way -- though definitely a good way.

In summation, as an American-born shaman, I am able to translate the ineffable into the comprehensible for the peoples of our common society, to build a bridge between the World of the Mythos and the World of the Senses. The individual then has the opportunity to experience first-hand the wonders of spiritual reality for the purpose of self-realization in service to the blossoming of our kindred upon this beautiful planet.

It is my desire to assist this unfoldment through the offering of the only thing I know -- the teachings and practices of authentic shamanism, expressed within the context of the Eagle's home: Neo-archaic Eclectic Spiritual Techniques (N.E.S.T.) It is my desire to ensure that this approach to spiritual awakening might always be available to the people for whom ''the Ways'' are held in sacred trust -- You and me, our friends and communities.

Sincerely,

Jade Wah'oo Grigori
