Pope John Paul II
Pope Says "Pray for Rain"

by Mitch Battros

Using prayer and meditation to help heal the environment has been a focus of the Spirit of Ma'at since our very first issue three years ago (see Mother Earth and Her Environment, Spirit of Ma'at Vol 1, Nos. 1-2).

In that issue's editorial, Drunvalo mentioned the 1992 environment conference in Rio de Janeiro and its conclusion that a change in our mindset would be required to reverse the destruction of our planetary home.

The following story from our Earth Changes correspondent, Mitch Battros, illustrates just this kind of a change in mindset: an emergence into world consciousness of the idea that our ideas and emotions — and prayers — can have an effect not just on human affairs but on the physical, planetary forces that create our weather.

As temperatures across Europe continued to soar, Pope John Paul II led prayers for rain. Speaking to hundreds of pilgrims and tourists visiting him at his summer residence south of Rome, the Pope expressed sorrow for deaths caused by the relentless heat.

Pope John Paul II"I ask you to join me in my prayer for the victims of this calamity and urge all of you to ask the Lord fervently to grant the thirsty Earth the coolness of rain," the Pope said.

Is this a sign of what is to come? Here is the leader of the largest tribe on Earth asking for ceremony. Perhaps we are witness to the modern day rituals of our ancestors.

It was not unusual for our ancient tribes to facilitate ceremony for a "shift in consciousness." But this may be the first tangible evidence of a modern welcoming of our ancient traditions and implementing of our human powers of manifestation.

To me, this action taken by Pope John Paul II seems to reflect that of our Mayan Elders in announcing the changes (see Mayans Predict Imminent Earth Changes). Will we, during the coming period until December 15 [during which the Mayans and Hopis predict massive earth changes—ed.], perhaps witness more of the consciousness evinced by the Pope's announcement?

Today, we are witness to temperatures higher than "ever before recorded." Could it be that the Earth Changes have escalated to a pitch where the whole world has taken notice? Only time will tell.

Blessings to All,
