Walking Through the Shadow
By Julia Griffin
The soul dances between the light and the darkness on the journey of awakening. The shadow is encountered as part of the path into higher consciousness. Awakening includes the recognition and integration of the shadow, as it is part of the reconciliation of duality.
Philosophy has long recognized the validity of shadow, and this is not new information. The newness of the age lies in living with vast number of seekers who are simultaneously approaching enlightenment. Through recognition of the global shadow, the opportunity for awakening is enhanced, not diminished.
The Philosopher's Stone is created through by the marriage of the opposites or the marriage of our personal duality. The discovery of our duality often begins with focusing on the light. In the moment of commitment to our spiritual nature, life seems to present a shadow world with a vision of the darkness that we have tried to limit, suppress or repress. The true nature of relationships, our life purpose, truths about our own inner being and participation in "reality" becomes too obvious to hide.
Plato's philosophy was that one becomes more aware of the shadow as the consciousness moves toward the light. His famous soliloquy of the caves hints that one is initially more aware of the shadow (than the light) in early stages of awakening.
He will require to grow accustomed to the sight of the upper world. And first he will see the shadows best, next the reflections of men and other objects in the water, and then the objects themselves; then he will gaze upon the light of the moon and the stars and the spangled heaven; and he will see the sky and the stars by night better than the sun or the light of the sun by day?
We could compare this to shining a light into a dimly lit room, and watching spider webs, dust and hidden or lost objects appear. The illumination made it possible to see clearly in the room. Previously, it was impossible to see the room clearly.
Every particle in our room is also vibrating at a specific rate. The illusion of physicality (even it feels really "real") is partially created from the vibratory rate of every object in the room. The sum of each vibration creates the feeling of the room, and it holds it together.
Light is known to be one of the highly vibrating frequencies in the universe. When a higher vibration is introduced, the lower vibrations (dirt, insects, or ignored, lost objects) become highly visible. The obvious solution is to clean the room. While we are cleaning the room, the clutter and dust become the objects of our focus. When the room is cleaned, we see the newly cleaned and sparkling room.
The metaphor can be extended into the consciousness of our lives. The movement from a lower frequency or vibration to a higher state reveals the chaos, the clutter, and the shadow nature of the ego. Before the ego is cast away and banished, it is important to understand that the ego is the computer and record keeper in our beings.
It is important to integrate the ego as opposed to banishing it because integration of the ego and soul is part of the methodology of creating the true self, or an accurate representation of our beings in a body, time, and space. It is this action/inaction between ego and soul, body and spirit, and duality that actually creates physicality. Without duality, there would be no form.
According to alchemy, there are three forces — the political, religious and educational systems — that threaten the growing light of the aspirant. They are considered enemies because they are known to rob man and woman of their real power. The separation from these three forces is essential to awaken the forces of the soul.
Initially, the aspirant is unconscious or only semi-conscious of these forces. As the light level of the aspirant increases, the perception of the power of these forces widens.
Let's look at a few of the present global shadows before examining possible solutions.
1) We are afflicted by teetering magnetic poles, bizarre storms and earth disasters.
2) Wars rage throughout the world, as part of the government agenda.
3) The internet depicts nefarious government plots, cruel aliens and greed driven capitalists that threaten our existence.
4) Energy and money are limited. They are both controlled by a small percentage of the population.
5) Driven by desperation, our population descends into violent and unnatural acts.
6) Our food and water are poisoned, while global governments scheme to eliminate less desirable members of our population.
While all of the statements may be true, there is still another perspective from which they can be viewed. We may be able to understand our group participation and semi-conscious creation if our perceptions are widened.
Our thoughts affect the world far more than our awareness allows our belief. The objects of our focus, particularly in group focus, create much of the present reality of the outer world.
For example, following the conference for Global Warming in Copenhagen, we experienced severely cold weather, one of predictions and a topic of subject matter. The weather trend is moderating, as it moves back into a "normal" pattern.
(The agenda is very simple. Scientific data is paired with photographs or pictures that are flashed on the screen on millions of televisions until we hold and project the desired hologram into reality.)
Popular and national education in the United States focuses on wars. Religion and literature create romance around war. Soldiers are depicted as heroes, and our consciousness is saturated with imagery of war. Do we know how to visualize life without war or to surrender our imagery of war, violence and drama?
If there is a nefarious government plot, then we might consider why it has been revealed in such detail at this time. Could it be that we are encouraged to feel powerless because it is easier to control a population that believes that it has no power or strength? Or that if we are told that there is no money that we will believe it?
If attention and energy are focused on a problem, it will certainly increase. It is only when we take responsibility for our participation in our life experience that "reality" can change. The victim or shadow state encourages feelings of helplessness and projection of our experiences on to others. Victimhood and a feeling of powerlessness may be the most heinous plot of all.
The group of "light workers" is probably the most targeted group for government/political/educational/ religious programming. Intuitive, awakened individuals are a threat to programming. The shadow knows it. Nothing is easier than creating an ogre that seems to have an immense force that is greater than our light.
Jung defined the shadow as an unconscious part of the mind that identifies with mass consciousness, projecting its fears and lower emotions toward other people and situations. He also thought that the shadow was valuable because creativity lies beneath its darkness. By integrating the shadow through creativity and spirituality, we can move into greater unity with ourselves and our planet.
When I first began hearing the thoughts of people aloud, I felt adrift in a sea of negativity. My first thought was that it was no wonder that the world was as it was, with the negativity that human beings project at one another and into the world. Sometimes, I thought that I would go mad or that the gods were punishing me. I experienced great difficulty as I attempted to separate my thoughts and feelings from this sea of consciousness.
As a result, I deepened and focused on my meditation practice because I could find connectivity, a place of profound peace that separated my consciousness from the thoughts of other people. Over time, I shifted into the reality that I visualized in meditation. Naturally, I became happier.
The interesting part was that I no longer heard thoughts unless I chose to do so. If I chose to hear the thoughts of others, I felt detached and eventually felt compassion for even the most discordant souls.
When I became responsible for my reaction when hearing thoughts and emotions, I chose to raise my vibratory rate. My alignment with my inner reality released my identification, judgments and categorization of lower emotions. Through compassion, my gift became valuable to myself and others.
Quantum physics has proven that the movement of photons reflects our beliefs. Beneath the surface of every particle of matter, there is light. Physicality orders itself around the movement, speed, cohesion and magnetism of particles. Light is the universal source of order. It is known that particles of matter increase their vibration and order when exposed to person's field that contains integrity.
Our shadow is formed by disharmonious vibrations which do not align with the "one" or the higher self. The vibrations flow out into the world of matter, where they create a disharmonious physical reality. Illusion persists through our belief that the projection of the shadow is truth. By accepting the belief that an illusion is truth, our thoughts and emotions vibrate with the incorrect conclusion, so that it experienced in "reality".
In light work, it is said that shadows are illusionary. The shadow mirrors beliefs that lack synchronicity with the Higher Self. According to many indigenous peoples, our false beliefs are mirrored by the world because it is the only way that they can be glimpsed. We know that other people create realities that mirror their beliefs, but it is more difficult to see our own shadow in the mirrored light. The challenge lies in understanding our participation in the co-creation of our present world reality.
We amplify the energy of a problem when focusing without visualizing a solution. By subconsciously or semi-consciously focusing on a problem, we project it into the world akasha for materialization. If we are distracted from our inner being, then it is not possible to visualize and create a world that based on the higher frequencies of love, harmony and balance.
One of the first steps in conscious co-creation is the realization that we are creating our experience through our beliefs, thoughts, emotions and actions. No one is doing anything to us.
The Kahuna method of Ho'oponopono states that we are part of any circumstance, news cast or dilemma (or any negativity) that is encountered in life. The law of magnetism states that we attract all that we encounter. If a negative newscast about war is encountered, then a small part of our being identifies with war. In other words, a few molecules of our being must identify with the information or we would not have attracted it.
It is our responsibility to clear our consciousness and cast light on the situation. According to the theory of Ho'oponopono, we simply say, "I apologize (for my participation.) Please forgive me. I love you. Thank you. (I also like to send pink light and visualize a more positive outcome as a substitute.)1
Do I believe that wars, greed and global changes are real? Absolutely, I believe that they are real, but I have found that the invisible world, which is found in the akasha and traveled by angels, to be much more real. It is there that truth abides with miracles and impossible solutions that can never found in "reality". I believe that the number of miracles and solutions far outweighs the problems in our small universe.
Our power lies in co-creation or manifestation, which is the art of consciously creating the soul's vision in the world. We can all begin by understanding that the distressing aspects of life can be altered through changing our vision and perception. A solution can be visualized for any problem. It is simply that we are hypnotized to focus on the problem, rather than a solution.
Many have asked, "Isn't it easier to just be and accept?" We will never learn about our patterns if the decision is made to avoid co-creation. The present experience of reality is result of just "being" and accepting the lack of awareness of the existence of the patterns. It is only when we walk into the light of co-creation that the shadow becomes apparent.
Co-creation is not making up visuals. It is aligning the inner self with the Divine through meditation to achieve an active state of co-creation. It is heart-felt and compassionate. It is not about having our way, but perceiving a way that benefits the All or the One.
My intuitive work has taught the skill of focusing on the light and good in others. In alchemy, one learns that first matter (or light) underlies all of the fabric of the material world, and it responds to the light of the seeker if we make contact with it. When the light responds, the shadow may initially grow but eventually diminishes.
Yes, I believe that plate tectonic instability exists in the world. I also believe that many earth changes will take place. I choose to focus on the underlying beauty in the world. I send light to those around me and into the forests and mountains daily.
I have compassion for the politicians. Surely, there must be a glint of light in each of them. I know that God exists in every form of matter on the planet. It must be painful to cause suffering in the world, even if one is unaware of it. The darkness feeds on fear, anger and confusion, so I focus on love and compassion.
Conscious consumerism is choosing the products that one buys because they cause the greatest good. The corporate world changes their products and sales to meet our demands. When many people choose clean water and food, the world responds.
As for the agenda, someone in the shadow always has an agenda, whether in our personal or global world. If we can realize the power of the light, then we are much more powerful than an agenda. We also have an advantage, as light and thought travel rapidly. When a single person has an enlightening or happy thought, it travels through the akasha to anyone who will accept it, creating a group for higher consciousness.
It will take far more than my individual vision and light to see the shadow differently and to co-create a beautiful world. By realizing that each time that a group raises its frequency, we are creating and reinforcing a more positive reality, we can move more deeply into the opportunities of the New Age.
Each of us can participate by seeing the world from a new or different perspective. We can focus on our own inner light and see it in the world, whether it is visible or not. Miracles are not visible until solidified in physical form, and miracles begin to happen long before they are visible to the human eye.
