Where Are Your
Gasoline Dollars Going?
Internet Story

Every time we fill up the car, we can avoid putting more money into the coffers of potential terrorists. Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Middle East.

Here are statistics for major companies that imported Middle Eastern oil for the period 9/1/00 to 8/31/01):

Shell
Chevron/Texaco
Exxon/Mobil
Marathon
Amoco
205,742,000 barrels
144,332,000
130,082,000
117,740,000
   62,231,000

Doing the math at $30/barrell, these imports amount to over $18 billion.

Some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil are:

  • Citgo,
  • Sunoco,
  • Conoco,
  • Sinclair, and
  • BP/Phillips

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and can be easily documented. Refineries located in the U.S. are required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing. They report on a monthly basis.

We might want to keep this list in our cars and share it with our friends.
