Messages of Hope

We, the staff of the Spirit of Ma'at, are deeply saddened by the attack on our country and upon the thousands of innocent people who died needlessly. These people are national heroes, for they gave their lives in an unknown battle against a terrorist group hidden like a snake under a secret veil.

But what you must know is that their lives were not in vain. A new unity has swept across America and around the world, created by these heroes' dying. Hopefully, their sacrifice will afford the grace that the world needs to come together as one.

May we look back in fifty years and see that this was the moment in history when the people and the governments of the world stood up and said, No more killing. No more pain. And the world actually did something to bring peace to this war-tattered planet.

It appears clear now that our country and our allies are not going to react by indiscriminately bombing more innocent people, but that they will perform surgery to eradicate the cancer of the worldwide terrorist groups. We of the peace movement applaud this resolve. But it is clear to us that if peace is to stay alive and flourish, a deeper, more intelligent, and more compassionate action also must be taken once terrorism is eradicated.

In other words, yes, we must take action to stop terrorists from killing innocent people and disrupting civilization. But if peace is to be sustained, we must do more than just stop the terrorists. We must also stop the causes of terrorism.

One example alone — though there are so many others — will suffice to help us comprehend the depth of our need. Today, there are little children hiding in holes in the ground, dying of starvation, fearing for their lives, and longing to be held and loved. As long as these forsaken little ones exist on Mother Earth, terrorists will continue to breed. No matter what else we do, if the world's children are not loved and taken care of, the world will continue to experience terrorist acts. For these children grow up with hatred in their hearts.

Am I wrong?

But now there is hope throughout the land, as unity spreads worldwide. Many of the spiritual leaders, along with ordinary citizens of the world, have expressed their thoughts and feelings about these current events, and many of you have read their emails that have probably avalanched your computers. The people sending these emails are expressing directly from their hearts the need for composure and compassion at this most crucial time.

Much of what these writers have to say is brilliant and brave and their words have touched us deeply. But the memory of these words could be lost or forgotten to the world in a few months, as new events unfold. It is human nature to forget.

Therefore, we have decided to make this special, free edition of the Spirit of Ma'at, to immortalize what these people have said, exactly as they wrote it in their moment of deep emotion and purity.[1] In this way, a year or ten years from now we will be able to go back and remember what so many great people had to say about this Day of Truth.

In addition, we will be updating this magazine every week, with new articles appearing each Sunday for as long as America is at war or until peace is achieved. So please check in each week for updates, exclusive articles and interviews, and news pertinent to realizing a world at peace.

We acknowledge that only a few of the many Internet responses to the world crisis could be put in these electronic pages, as there were far too many for us to record all of them. But we have chosen the examples that we feel most clearly represent the heart of the many. And, as noted, we will add more in the future. Also included are three articles exclusive to the Spirit of Ma'at.

We also suggest, even if you've read it before, that you visit the first issue of the Spirit of Ma'at, published in August 2000. Although it's about healing the environment, it concerns the power of prayer to transform the world, and this knowledge applies equally to creating peace. We need to remind ourselves of these truths every day.

We understand that most of the political world will seek solutions in the third dimension. This does not stop us from turning to prayer and to God.

May our unity live forever.

In love and service,

Drunvalo
