The Great Cleanse

By Heather Fraser

In the world of my long ago memories, cleansing was a daily practice. We knew that to purify was to honour the temple of our body. Whether it was our daily prayers, a bath in sacred smoke, or a wild dance of ecstasy, we knew the power of wiping the slate clean to begin anew.

This is an ancient practice finding its way back into our lives. It is another memory surfacing as we awaken to our true selves. But like all practices that are put aside and forgotten, there are always consequences. None that can't be rectified, but in the case of cleansing, especially emotionally, one that will take great patience and an enormous amount of self love.

As we continue along the road to freedom, we begin to see the parallel of our physical being and that of our planet. As more and more natural disasters take place upon our earth, we become aware of our own disasters taking place within.

Whether this be physical in terms of illness or disease, the breakdown of our primary relationships, the fall of our commerce and economy, or an emotional unravelling of our psyches, we begin to notice the un-nerving connection between the physical "us" and the physical earth.

Who is mirroring who we wonder? Are the earth's disasters and environmental imbalances weakening our sense of safety and security, and therefore our physical vehicle? Or is the great awakening causing us to feel the frightening prospect of losing our old identities, owning our power, and being responsible for our lives, which in turn is being mirrored back to us as large chunks and masses of life falling away to make room for the new?

What my higher wisdom knows, is all is as it should be. We are beginning to cleanse again. Some of us are doing it by choice, out of awareness of the bigger evolutionary picture. To many others, it feels like "bad" things are happening to us that are out of our control.

This is where it is helpful to reach beyond the world of duality, for none of what is taking place will ever make sense from a place of right or wrong, good or bad. We must learn to go within for our wisdom and our guidance, for it is here, and only here that we will come to know the perfection of it all, especially our own personal sense of self and life that may feel like it's coming undone.

There are things we can do to make this cleansing process easier. In the past few years I have felt the urgent need to physically purify my body. Not fanatically by any means, but I have done this through various herbal cleanses, drinking more water — much more water, drastically reducing my intake of sugar and wheat, supporting my lymphatic system with daily walks in nature, supporting my nervous system with a daily routine that feels balanced and healthy to me, and supporting my emotional self with the freedom to feel and release, without judgment, in other words — to cleanse — whenever it is appropriate to do so. (I say appropriate, for at times a sudden wave of emotion would rise up in the middle of grocery shopping, or when I was with playing with my daughter etc.)

Purifying and cleansing ourselves brings about a sense of lightness, a greater sense of ease and movement within our bodies. Life force can flow through us with less effort, with more power. Feeling this way within our physical bodies, we magically become attuned to the messages of the cosmos. Our intuition becomes stronger, and with our physical vehicles cleaned out, both emotionally and physically, we begin to dance within the nectar of God's grace. It is here, in these moments, when we are able to rise above duality into the feeling of Oneness, that we can see the perfection of all that is taking place, and can make sense of it from a place of wholeness, rather than separation.

Rarely does this happen if we are toxic. Toxic people create a toxic world. All that has been happening, and continues to happen from the massive growth in the natural health field, to Oprah's New Earth classroom reaching millions, to the election of Obama, the horror of 911 in 2001, the massive tsunami in 2005, the creation of movie clubs like Spiritual Cinema, this sacred website here at The Spirit of Ma'at. These are all powerful opportunities and signs of the evolutionary destiny we are headed for.

When we can step back and gain a spiritual perspective from the level of Oneness, we can begin to see the profound, and often stunning wisdom of God's grace, that which allows us the freedom to create whatever kind of world we desire.

As we awaken to this undeniable truth, we begin to understand the natural cleansing process. Collectively we are choosing to let go of the false and fearful beliefs within us, making room for the inner temples and holy altars that will house the return of a self long forgotten, but never erased from memory. There's no turning back. What a time to be alive!
