Insights on the Healing Process

By Norma Gentile

People sometimes feel as if they have entered into dream state or some altered state during times of meditation and energy healings. This happens for a reason. And it's part of the healing process.

When I am speaking or singing, the energies of the healing guides and angels are laid into my speaking voice. The words or song are like the left hand of the magician, waving to the crowd. The brain is being fed by the words or music, while the guides and angels are like the magician's right hand, which is actually performing a healing.

I'm convinced that we don't always need to know consciously what is happening during healing. In some cases, if our personality had a sense of what our soul was choosing, we would stop that choice, or at the very least impede it. But ultimately the discomfort of our personality needs to take a back seat to the goals of our soul. Sometimes that means keeping our personalities entertained (absorbed in words or music) while the guides and angels provide the healing changes that our soul desires.

When people say that they have "gone somewhere" during a healing session, group meditation or healing concert, I believe that their souls have purposely turned the consciousness of their personality away from what the soul is choosing. Somewhat like turning your head in order to not see something that a friend means to keep secret from you. This usually signifies that a major shift is underway. The results of that shift are apt to be noticeable in as little as a few weeks or as much as a few months. Sometimes we experience profound change so completely throughout our body, mind and energy field that we don't notice we have changed until much later. This is because all the parts of us — emotions, thoughts, physical body and energy field — are moving rapidly in sync together.

We are more apt to notice change when one or more aspects of our being are shifting faster than the rest. For instance, our heart may be open, even experiencing spiritual bliss, but our work life is not equally satisfying. We experience this as tension between those parts of ourselves that are moving at different rates. Too often we interpret this tension as being what change is like for us. In reality, it is merely how we experience change that is not homogenous throughout our mind, body, spirit, heart, etc.

True healing doesn't just point out what is functioning well so that we can do more of it, but it also shows us what is not functioning adequately. For instance, when we find something that seems to yield pleasant results, we tend to do it more often, which can lead to imbalance. For example, in many circles we are praised for having an open heart. What many do not realize is that the vortices within our heart chakra are often too open, beyond a level that is comfortable and physically nurturing to our bodies.

I can feel the questioning in people's minds even now as I write! During healing sessions I often am directed by someone's guides to ask their heart chakra how open or closed it wants to be. In almost all cases I see the chakra diminish in size. And in each case the client has reported to me that their heart and chest area felt immediately freer and more open. For many their breathing becomes easier as well. Invariably, they also recount a story about being told to always have an open heart. And yet, allowing their body and their guides to determine the manner and extent of openness in their heart chakra led not to more opening, but to some amount of closing in the chakra.

How could that be?

As we develop our own psychic and energy healing abilities, we are able to open and close our chakras. More specifically, we are able to open and close some of the vortices contained within the principle vortex of each chakra. And this can lead to an imbalance among the vortices. We may become very proficient at opening and utilizing certain vortices within a chakra, but not others. As a result some vortices within a chakra may be closed and underdeveloped.

For myself and most of us, it is easier to do what we already know how to do, rather than to learn how to do something new. So when the vortices within our heart or any other chakra feel closed or clogged, we tend to open those vortices within it that we already know how to open. If the chakra continues to feel heavy, congested or closed, we naturally try to open those same vortices even more.

As a result, the vortices with which we are less familiar become squeezed into a smaller and smaller space. But ironically, the issues that we are working on usually lie within, or relate to, the vortices that we are less able to access. Chances are good that those vortices that we can open easily are fairly clear, and the issues related to them are known to us. What we most need to learn about lies in the other vortices of the chakra that we have less ease in accessing.

For this reason I am apt to ask in healings how open or closed each of the client's chakras want to be. The moment there is permission for the chakra and the vortices contained within it to determine for themselves how much energy should move through what vortices of the chakra, there is balance. And that balance is felt in the physical body as openness, ease and relaxation.

Can someone do this themselves? Yes, to some extent. The key is getting out of your mind and away from making your chakras look perfect, like the chart you have seen hanging on a wall. Let your body guide the process, not your mind. Your mind can focus the questions. This keeps it busy, just like the left hand of the magician waving to the crowd. The right hand (in this case your body) provides guidance to shift the energies.

This can be a good start to meditation, and also a nice concept to share with others. It is frequently much easier for someone else to sense when there is a struggle to over-extend or create a "perfect" chakra. For most of us it has become a habitual way of being, and so much a part of who we assume ourselves to be that we cannot feel the imbalance.

It is like wearing heavy winter clothes for so long that on the first warm day of spring, we feel naked in a t-shirt and shorts! While the winter clothing kept us warm, wearing less is really revealing more of who we are. Once you allow the vortices that have been forced open to close down a bit, the other vortices can open more freely. In most cases, the chakras will actually feel more open and the body physically lighter.

This in turn begins to let the issues related to these under-opened vortices begin to move as well. They are usually issues in your life that have been present for a long time, and seem to be stagnant and unchanging. You may also notice some uncomfortable events as these issues are recharged with your own life-force. This is just your soul and body agreeing to address the issues. Know that this is a sign that indeed those vortices are now opening, and you are engaging now with situations that will help you clarify what your soul wants you to address in your life at this time.
